Competition for All

The ASA, under the banner of 'Competition for All' have introduced ‘Licensed Meets’ in an attempt to stop the over crowding which has been too common at designated meets in previous years.

Rotherham Metro have embraced this initiative and have licensed the ‘A’ and ‘B’ graded meet at Ponds Forge in January at Level 3 (District qualifying times can be achieved) and the ‘Spring Designated’ meet in April at Level 1 (National and District qualifying times can be achieved). There is a further ‘A’ and ‘B’ graded meet scheduled to be held short course in July and that too will be licensed at level 3.

The Level 1 meet has consideration times for all swims. These are the times that swimmers should have already achieved before entering a meet of this class. Having achieved these times entry is still not guaranteed because the daily swim time limit of 7.5 hours must be adhered to. In the event that the meet is over subscribed, entry times will be taken into account.

The Level 3 meet has upper limits as well as lower limits and is aimed at swimmers who have in the past, found it difficult to gain entry into a designated meet (now level 1 meet). The upper limits set for our ‘A’ grade are just below National Qualifying standard for 2003.

Where a swimmer enters any licensed meet with a time that has not been achieved and this is brought to the promoters’ attention, the ASA have made provisions in ASA law for that entry to be refused and no refund of entry fee to be given. Times must have been achieved prior to them being submitted on the entry form for our ‘A’ grade and licensed level 1 meet.

Details of both the level 1 and level 3 licensed meets to be held in April and January respectively are available from the Homepage of our website.
