Barnsley Summer Sizzler 2011
A team of Rotherham Metro swimmers competed at the Barnsley Sizzler held at Ponds Forge on the 3rd July and came away with lots of medals, speeding tickets and numerous PB’s. Medals were awarded for the first six in each age category.
Boys Competition
Twelve year-old Robert Pearson who will be representing Rotherham in the Nationals was in scintillating form claiming Speeding tickets in the 50 and 100 Backstroke, 50 Freestyle and 50 Fly and followed this up with a hat-trick of Gold medals in the 100 Breaststroke and Freestyle and 50 Breaststroke with finally a Silver medal in the 100 Fly. Ten year-old Jack Whitehirst was once again in fine form claiming Gold medals in the 100 Breaststroke and Freestyle with Silvers in the 200IM and 50 Freestyle with Bronze medals in the 100 Backstroke and 50 Breaststroke. Fourteen year-old Sam Pearson was in outstanding form claiming Silver in the 100 Fly with Bronze medals in the 50 and 100 Freestyle and 50 Breaststroke with 4th in the 50 and 100 backstroke and finally 5th position in the 50 Fly. Josh Hillman (13) claimed Silver in the 100 Backstroke with 4th position in the 100 Freestyle and 200IM with 5th in 100 Fly. Twelve year-old Connor Neal did exceptionally well considering this was his first gala back after a long injury; he won Bronze medals in the 100 Backstroke, Breaststroke and 200IM with 4th position in the 100 Freestyle and 50 Breaststroke. Ten year-old Joshua Turver produced two great swims to take 5th in the 50 Fly and 6th in the50 Backstroke. Fifteen year-old James Newton scored a hat-trick of medals with a 5th in the 200IM and 6th positions in the 50 and 100 Breaststroke and finally producing a outstanding swim to claim 6th position in the 50 Breaststroke was 10 year-old Harry Buxton and finally Ben Cliff 12 claimed 6th position in the 50 Fly.
Girls Competition
In the girls competition eleven year-old Rebecca Bamber was in fine form claiming a Speeding ticket in the 100 Backstroke, Gold in the 100 Freestyle, Silvers in the 200IM and 100 Fly with a Bronze in the 100 Breaststroke. Another eleven year-old also performing outstanding on the day was Abbie Ackroyd who gained Gold in the 100 Breaststroke, silver in the 50 Backstroke, Bronzes in the 50 Breaststroke and 100 Backstroke with a 5th and 6th place in the 50 Fly and Freestyle respectively. Jessica Bushby (14) Gold in the 50 Fly with Silver’s in the 200IM and 100 Fly with 4th places in the 50 and 100 Freestyle with 5th and 6th places in the 50 and 100 Backstroke. Twelve year-old Alicia Hartley claimed Gold in the 50 Breaststroke with Silver in the 50 Backstroke with 4th, 5th and 6th in the 100 Breaststroke, 200IM and 100 Backstroke respectively. Thirteen year-old Rebecca Britten claimed Gold with a fantastic performance in the 200IM and followed this up with Silver in the 50 Freestyle and 6th position in the 100 Breaststroke. Nine Year-old Abigail Kennett put in a wonderful performance to claim the Gold medal in the 200IM and followed this with a 6th position in the 50 Breaststroke. Hannah Burgess (10) put in a very measured swim to claim the Silver medal in the 50 Backstroke, also claiming a Silver medal in the 50 Backstroke was eleven year-old Rebecca Durn who also claimed a Bronze medal in the 100 Backstroke. Thirteen year-old Chloe Rooker came away with a magnificent seven medals which consisted of Silver in the 100 Fly with four of Bronze medals in the 50 Fly and Freestyle and 100 Freestyle and Backstroke followed by 5th in the 50 Backstroke and 200IM. Ten year-old Ellisia Dawson claimed a clutch on Bronze medals in the 50 and 100 Breaststroke also ten Kayley Britten entered five events and came away with five medals which were Bronze in the 100 Fly with 5th in the 100 freestyle and a hat-trick of 6th places in the 100 Backstroke, 100 breaststroke and 200 IM and finally Fiona Connell (14) Bronze in the 100 Fly and 5th position in the 50 Fly.
Other swimmers competing were; Alex White, Ben Cliff, Liam Blackwell, Brodie Benson, Luke Hamstead, Thomas Hesling, Adam Blackwell, Molly Gervis, Megan Dobson, Ellia Baillie, Isobel Hall, Madeline Jones, Courtney Cutler, Iasabelle Stewart, Megan Lowe, Jacob Parker, Ceri Thorman, Sophia Jones and Brandon Jackson.
