Report from Metro Level 1 Meet 2009

It was reported to have been the hottest day of the year but this didn’t bother the swimmers attending Rotherham Metro’s long course swimming gala at Ponds Forge on the 23rd and 24th of May. Clubs from all over the UK took part including Loughborough University, they walked away with the top club award. Despite this, Rotherham Metro still gave a good performance with some of the older swimmers keeping pace with the Loughborough swimmers. Dale Waterhouse (17) came 3rd in the 200m Breast with a time of 2.33.57 just behind another Loughborough swimmer (18) with a time of 2.23.34. Dale also came 2nd in the 200 IM, with first place going to Joe Roebuck from Loughborough who is a former Rotherham Metro swimmer. Others just beaten by Loughborough were Frances McGrother, Paige Davis, Claire Shortt and Tom Nelson.

The younger swimmers also did very well, Matthew Sotheran (pictured) gained 3 further national times in the 200 metres IM, 100 metres Free and 100 metres Back. His sister Holly also came 1st in 200m Free, 2nd in 100m Free, 3rd in the 200 IM and 50m Free. Emily Shone was 2nd in 50m Back. Alice Aucott was 2nd in 100m Breast, and 3rd in 50m Breast and Alicia Hartley was 2nd in the 50m Breast. Daniel Mclean was 2nd in 100m Back and 3rd in 50m Back. Head Coach Alan Kirton said there was 100% effort from everyone that attended, we are reaping the rewards for all the hard work put in.
