City of Sheffield No Frills Meet 2011
A number of Rotherham Metro swimmers competed recently at City of Sheffield’s No Frills Gala at Ponds Forge from the 27th to 29th May held at Ponds Forge. This competition is a level one meet which means that many of the country’s top swimmers were competing with many hoping to gain their national times. Despite the high standard, many Rotherham swimmers gained medals with many more gaining new personal best times.
Medal winners:
Matthew Sotheran (14) once again led the way taking the Silver medals in the 14 year-old age group 200 Fly and 400IM with George Russell (13) yet again having another fantastic weekend gaining Silver in the 200 Fly and Bronze in the 100 Fly. Holly Sotheran (12) claimed the Silver medal in the 800 Freestyle with an extremely measured swim. Eleven year-olds Rebecca Finnie and Rebecca Bamber both had outstanding swims with both gaining a Silver medal each, Rebecca finnie in the 100 Freestyle and Rebecca Bamber in the 100 Backstroke.

Josh Hillman (12) 1500 Freestyle 6th, 400 Freestyle 7th, 200 Freestyle 9th and 200 Backstroke 9th. George Russell (13) 400 IM 4th,400 Freestyle 5th and 200 Freestyle 8th. Robert Pearson (12) 100 Backstroke 7th, 100 Freestyle 7th and 200 Backstroke also 7th. Rebecca Bamber (11) 100 Freestyle 5th, 200 Backstroke 5th and 100 breaststroke 9th. Abbie Hull (13) 100 Backstroke 7th, 800 Freestyle 8th and 200 Backstroke 10th. Charlotte Pearson (16) 100 Fly 6th, Rebecca Britten (13) 100 Backstroke 8th, Simon Worne (18) 100 Breaststroke 8th and Aaron Waterhouse (17) 400 Freestyle 9th.
Other Rotherham swimmers competing over the weekend were : Scott Mason, James Shiel, Emily Shone, Kelsey Longden, Shannon Eades, Fiona Connell, Jessica Bushby, Sam Pearson, Adam Parkes, Bethany Woodcock, Rebecca Durn and Nicole Clarke.
