Masters Gala 2009

Rotherham Metro hosted it’s 9th Annual Open Masters Meet at Ponds Forge on the 8th February. A total of 277 swimmers entered the competition with several entries from overseas.

During the competition, Anne Bourne from Camphill Edwardians ASC, broke the European and British record for the 400m Freestyle by 10 seconds. She competed in the 55-59 years age group and her new record time was 5.22.28. Three swimmers from Birmingham Masters ASC also broke seven British records.

Metro's Masters contingent competed well, with Peter Ingham coming first in the 400m Freestyle, 200m Back, 200m Breast, 400 IM and second in the 200m IM. Ian Swift, who has just returned to swimming, achieved Gold in the 200m Breast and 200m Freestyle. Michael Pepper came second in the 50m Fly and 3rd in the 50m Breast and 100M Fly. Michael Dawes was 2nd in the 50m Breast and 3rd in the 50m Freestyle and his daughter Sarah came 2nd in the 50m Fly.
