Matthew claims two National Times at COSSS Premier Meet

 

Rotherham Metro swimmers competed recently at the City of Sheffield’s Premier Meet held at Ponds Forge. This competition attracted swimmers that have competed at Olympic and Commonwealth level as well as attracting all the top clubs throughout the UK. To qualify to swim in this gala is an achievement in itself and enables many swimmers to swim in one of the top competitions outside of the Nationals. Despite the extremely high standard, many Rotherham swimmers gained new personal best times with some winning age group medals and making the finals of their events.

 

Matthew Sotheran (14) claimed two National times in the 100 Back and Freestyle and  once again led the way reaching a fantastic five finals in the 14 and under category finishing 4th in the 100 Backstroke and Freestyle, 6th in the 100 Fly and 10th in the 200IM and 200 Freestyle. In his age group Matthew took Silver in the 100 Freestyle and Bronzes in the 100 Backstroke and Fly. In the 14 and under age category George Russell (13) swam to a magnificent Silver medal in the 200 Fly final, another Fly specialist twelve year-old Holly Sotheran finished 9th in the final of the 13 and under girls category also claiming a Gold medal in her age group. Charlotte Pearson (16) reached two finals in the 14 and over competition finishing   8th in the 50 Fly and 9th in the 100 Fly also reaching the final in the boys open category was sixteen year-old Adam Parkes who finished 7th in the 50 Backstroke.

 

Other Rotherham swimmers competing over the weekend with many gaining top ten age group placing’s were Alice Aucott, Rebecca Finnie, Jessica Bushby, Shannon Eades, Bethany Woodcock, Laura Gillott, Nicole Clarke, Simon Worne, Robert Pearson, Kimberley Bush, Fiona Connell, Chloe Rooker, Josh Hillman, Emily Shone, Aaron Waterhouse, Josh Whitehurst, Samuel Pearson, Scott Mason.
