Yorkshire Masters and Eckington Open
Swimmers from the Masters section of Rotherham Metro travelled to Scarborough on May 13th to take part in the Yorkshire Masters Championships.
Karen Holden went home with a hatdful of medals, winning gold in the 50m backstroke and 100m backstroke, silver in the 100m individual medley and bronze in the 50m butterfly. Michael Kelly won gold in the 50m backstroke, silver in both the 100m backstroke and 50m breaststroke, and bronze in the 50m freestyle. Dave Smith claimed gold in the 200m freestyle and bronze in the 100m freestyle whilst Sarah Dawes came second in the 50m freestyle and third in the 50m butterfly. Michael Dawes came third in both the 100m freestyle and 100m breaststroke, fourth in the 50m breaststroke and sixth in the 50m freestyle. Michael Pepper won silver in the 100m butterfly, third in the 50m butterfly and fifth in the 200m freestyle.
On the following Sunday, May 14th, forty-five swimmers from Rotherham Metro competed in the Eckington Open Age Group Meet. Aaron Waterhouse came second in the top boy award for winning three gold and two silver trophies, whilst Rachel Grainger achieved second place in the top girl award as a result of winning four gold and one silver trophy.
In the ten year age group Rachel Grainger gained first place in the 100m individual medley, the 50m freestyle, the 50m backstroke and the 50m butterfly, second place in the 50m breaststroke. Nathan Salf and Matthew Sotheran had their own little battle to secure the top places: Nathan collecting gold awards in the 100m individual medley, the 50m butterfly, the 50m breaststroke and silver in the 50m freestyle and the 50m backstroke; Matthew winning gold awards in the 50m freestyle and 50m backstroke, and silver in the 100m individual medley, 50m butterfly and 50m breaststroke. Emily Shone came first in the 50m breaststroke, second in the 50m backstroke and fourth in both the 50m freestyle and the 50m butterfly. Nicole Clarke came third in the 50m breaststroke and sixth in the 50m backstroke and the 50m butterfly. Kelsey Longden came fifth in the 50m butterfly and Sophie Wilson came sixth in the 50m freestyle.
In the eleven year age group Joshua Whitehurst came sixth in the 50m breaststroke.
Madison Elliott won silver awards in the 100m freestyle and the 100m backstroke, bronze in the 100m individual medley and fourth place in the 100m breaststroke in the twelve year age group. Adam Parkes came second in the 100m backstroke and the 100m butterfly, third in the 100m freestyle and sixth place in the 100m breaststroke. Nicholas Grainger came fifth in the 100m individual medley and sixth in the 100m freestyle whilst Megan Forster came fourth in the 100m butterfly and fifth in the 100m individual medley.
In the twelve year age group Aaron Waterhouse gained golds in the 100m individual medley, the 100m backstroke and the 100m breaststroke, silver in both the 100m freestyle and the 100m butterfly. Daniel McLean won silver awards in the 100m individual medley and the 100m backstroke, third place in the 100m freestyle and fourth place in the 100m breaststroke. Aimee Jepson won a bronze in the 100m butterfly and fourth place in the 100m individual medley. Ashleigh Reasbeck came fifth in the 100m butterfly and sixth in the 100m freestyle.
Paige Jepson, in the thirteen year age group, won two golds; 100m backstroke and 100m butterfly, fifth place in the 100m freestyle and sixth place in both the 100m breaststroke and the 100m individual medley.
In the fifteen and over age group Laura Whittaker won two silver awards for the 100m freestyle and the 100m backstroke. Claire Shortt came third in the 100m butterfly, fourth in the 100m backstroke and sixth in the 100m freestyle. Emily May Roebuck came second in the 100m individual medley and third in the 100m freestyle.Thomas Moxon won the silver trophy for the 100m butterfly and came fifth in the 100m breaststroke. Dale Waterhouse won the bronze in the 100m breaststroke whilst James Pepper came fourth in the 100m butterfly, fifth in the 100m backstroke, and sixth in the 100m breaststroke and the 100m individual medley. Frances McGrother came sixth in the 100m butterfly.
Swimmers also competing were Thomas Newton, Loren Taylor, William Bailey, Alexander Pepper, Thomas Gibbons, Lauren Coles, Bethany White, Alex Graves, Alex Kemp, Elliott Smales, Scott Mason, Joshua Massey, Rachel Taylor, Charlotte Bailey, Louise Rourke, Laura Wylie, Adam Smith, Michael Stewart and Thomas Nelson.
