Matthew is Yorkshire Champion!

Eighteen young Metro swimmers took part in the Yorkshire Championships winter competition held at Ponds Forge, Sheffield.

Ten year old Matthew Sotheran was the Yorkshire Champion in the 50m backstroke final, winning the gold medal. He won silver medals in the 50m freestyle and in the 100m individual medley, as well as reaching the finals in the 50m butterfly (6th) and the 50m breaststroke (7th).

In the 50m breaststroke finals Nathan Salf (10) won a bronze medal and Nicole Clarke (9) won fourth place. Nathan also came eighth in the 100 individual medley.

Rachael Grainger (10) reached four finals; coming fifth in the 100m backstroke, seventh in the 200 individual medley, and eighth in the 100m freestyle and 100m butterfly.

Richard Lee (11) reached three finals; coming fourth in the 100m freestyle, fifth in the 100m butterfly and sixth in the 200m individual medley.

Aaron Waterhouse (12) came sixth in the 100m butterfly final and ninth in both the 100m backstroke final and the 200m individual medley.

Thirteen year old Laura Edgar came tenth in the 100m backstroke final whilst Daniel McLean, also thirteen, came eighth in his 100m backstroke final.

Other swimmers taking part in the championships were; James Newton, Alex Graves, Adam Parkes, Nicholas Grainger, Scott Mason, Ashleigh Reasbeck, Madison Elliott, Megan Forster, Aimee Jepson and Samuel Chambers.
