September 2010 Meet


On the 18th of September Rotherham Metro held their first meet of the new season, which was a short course open B and C grade that attracted many swimmers from all over the UK. There were three categories being awarded, B grade, C grade and speeding tickets.

 

Morning session.

 

The very first event of the session was the boys 100M IM where Rotherham got off to a flying start with ten year-old Erhen Beresford claiming the B grade Silver medal which was followed by eleven year-old Devin Kellett claiming a Speeding ticket and also Connor Wood (11) claiming the Bronze medal in the B grade. In the Twelve year-old event Joel Mitchell was awarded a speeding ticket with Thomas Hesling claiming a Bronze medal in the C grade competition. George Russell (13), James Newton (14) and Elliot Smales (15) all won speeding tickets in their respective events with Sam Pearson (14) claiming a B grade Gold medal. The first girl’s event of the morning session was the 50M Fly where Rebecca Durn (10) claimed her first of many speeding tickets to come throughout the day. Megan Lowe  (10) took the Bronze medal in the C grade and in the twelve year-old section Rotherham had four speeding ticket winners in Rebecca Britten, Abbie Hull, Sophie Jones and Shannon Rickett as well has Alicia Hartley claiming a B grade Gold with Sheridan Oates taking the C grade Gold and Caitlin Binns taking the silver medal. Fiona Connell (13) was awarded a speeding ticket with Gold and Silver in the fourteen year-old C grade category going to Ruth Brown and Shannon Sutton. In the 15 and over age group Rachel Frost won the C grade Silver medal. The next event was the boys 50M Breaststroke where Thomas Charnock (10) struck Gold in the C grade competition; in the eleven year-old competition Connor Neal won his first speeding ticket which would be followed by many more. Devin Kellett (11) then went on to secure a Bronze in the B grade with Luke Hamstead (11) taking the C grade Gold and Connor Wood (11) taking the Silver Medal. Robert Pearson (12) won the Bronze in the C grade with George Russell (13) once again claiming a speeding ticket. There were two Gold’s in the fourteen year-old category with James Newton taking the B grade and Sam Pearson taking the C grade followed by two silvers in the fifteen and over age group with Elliott Smales taking B grade award and Will Bailey gaining the C grade award. Rebecca Durn (10) and Alicia Hartley (12) both claimed a speeding ticket in the girls 100M Backstroke with Robyn Hartley (12) also taking the C grade silver medal. In the fourteen-year age group Kimberley Bush won the B grade Gold medal followed by Rachel Frost in the fifteen and over taking the C grade Silver medal. Robert Kirk and Connor Neal both (11) gained speeding tickets in the 100M Fly with Ben Cliff (11) taking the B grade Silver Medal. In the twelve year-old age group Josh Hillman was awarded a speeding ticket with Robert Pearson taking the Silver in the C grade. Sam Pearson (14) claimed the Gold medal in the C grade with Matthew Wilson (15) taking the C grade silver in the fifteen and over age group. In the girls 50M freestyle ten year-olds   Rebecca Durn and Abbie Ackroyd both claimed speeding tickets with Courtney Cutley claiming Silver in the C grade competition. In the Eleven year-old age group Katie Pollard was awarded a speeding ticket with Lucy Handley claiming the B grade Gold medal. Fiona Connell (13) gained the B grade silver with Kimberley Bush (14) taking a speeding ticket in her age group. In the 50M Backstroke event Devin Kellett (11) received a speeding ticket with Ben Cliff (11) gaining the silver medal in the B grade competition, Joel Mitchell (12) and George Russell (13) both received Speeding tickets with Sam Pearson (14) and Elliott Smales (15) taking the Gold in the B grade category followed by William Bailey (15) taking Gold in the C grade. The next event the girls 100M Breaststroke saw speeding tickets awarded to Abbie Ackroyd (10), Rebecca Durn (10), Katie Pollard (11), Alicia Hartley (12), Bethany Woodcock (13) and Lynn Shackshaft (13) with Rebecca Britten (12) winning the bronze in the B grade event and Sophie Jones (12) taking the bronze in the C grade. Molly Simpson (13) won the B grade bronze with Kimberley Bush taking the Gold in the B grade 14-year age group. In the last event of the morning session the boys 100M Freestyle Robert Kirk (11) was awarded a speeding ticket with Ben Cliff (11) taking the B grade silver and Connor wood (11) taking the C grade silver followed home by Luke Hamstead (11) taking the C grade bronze medal. In the twelve year-old age group Josh Hillman won the B grade silver with Alex Forth taking the C grade silver, George Russell (13) continued his fine form by winning his 4th speeding ticket of the morning session. Sam Pearson and James Newton both (14) won the B grade silver and bronze respectively with Elliott Smales (15) taking the B grade gold and Matthew Wilson (15) taking the C grade gold.

 

Afternoon session

 

The morning session had produced 41 speeding tickets and 40 medals of all colours and grades so quite simply the target was to try and reach the 100 mark for the meet.

The girls 100M IM was the first event of the afternoon session and in the ten year-old categories Rebecca Bamber, Rebecca Durn, Abbie Ackroyd and Danielle Marsh all gained speeding tickets, along with eleven year-olds Katie Pollard and Holly Fenwick.

Abbie Hull and Alicia Hartley both twelve also gained speeding tickets with Sophie Jones taking the B grade bronze medal and Robyn Hartley taking the C grade bronze medal. Kimberley Bush gained a speeding ticket in the fourteen year-old age group with Shannon Sutton taking the silver medal in the C grade. Ehren Beresford  (10) won the C grade 50M Fly with Connor Neal (11) gaining another speeding ticket and Benjamin Cliff winning the B grade gold and Devin Kellet the bronze medal. Twelve year-old Josh Hillman was awarded a speeding ticket with Robert Pearson (12) winning the B grade silver, James Newton (14) also won a speeding ticket and Sam Pearson took the B grade silver followed by Andrew Bishop who gained the bronze medal and William Bailey (15) gained the C grade silver. In the girls 50M breaststroke ten year-olds Abbie Ackroyd, Rebecca Durn and Danielle Marsh all gained speeding tickets with Megan Dobson (10) claiming the gold medal. Katie pollard (11) won a speeding ticket with Lucy Handley (11) taking the gold in the B grade competition. Alicia Hartley (12) gained a speeding ticket with Eleanor Coleman taking the b grade gold and Rebecca Britten (12) taking the bronze medal. Thirteen year-old Beth Woodcock claimed another speeding ticket with Molly Simpson (13) taking the C grade silver medal and Kimberley Bush (14) taking the B grade silver followed by Shannon Sutton (14) taking the C grade gold medal. In the boys 100M backstrokes Devin Kellet (11) won the B grade Silver followed by Robert Kirk (11) taking the bronze medal, Josh Hillman (12) took the B grade gold medal with Robert Pearson (12) taking the bronze. Alex Forth (12) won the C grade gold followed by Thomas Evans (12) taking the bronze medal. George Russell (13) yet again gained another speeding ticket with Sam Pearson (14) taking the bronze medal and Matthew Wilson (15) gaining the C grade gold medal. In the girls 100M Fly Rebecca Bamber (10) claimed the B grade gold with Abbie Hull (12) taking a speeding ticket and Rebecca Britten taking the B grade Gold and Sophie Jones the B grade silver. Fiona Connell (13) won the B grade silver and fourteen year-old Kimberley Bush was awarded a speeding ticket with Shannon Sutton taking the C grade silver and Chloe Burditt taking the bronze medal. In the 50M Freestyle Devin Kellett (11) won the B grade gold with James Newton (14) taking a speeding ticket and Andrew Bishop (14) gaining the B grad bronze with Elliott Smales (15) winning a speeding ticket and William Bailey (15) taking the B grade bronze medal. In the girls 50M Backstrokes Rebecca Durn (10) secured another speeding ticket with Megan Lowe taking the C grade bronze medal. Katie Pollard (11) added to her medal tally with a B grade bronze medal and Shannon Rickett (12) claimed the C grade bronze medal. Molly Simpson (13) won the C grade silver with fourteen year-olds Ruth Brown taking C grade silver and Zoe Thomson claiming the bronze medal. In the 100M breaststrokes Connor Neal (11) won the B grade gold with Benjamin Cliff taking the C grade gold followed by in the twelve year-old age group Josh Hillman taking the B grade bronze and Robert Pearson taking the C grade gold and Alex Forth the silver George Russell (13) gained another speeding ticket with James Newton (14) taking the B grade gold and Sam Pearson the silver medal. In the final event of the day the girls 100M Freestyle Rebecca Bamber (10) gained a B grade silver with Abbie Hull (12) gaining a speeding ticket and Sophie Jones (12) taking a C grade gold. Lynn Shackshaft (13) claimed the C grade gold with Ameila Kurley taking the bronze medal. Kimberley Bush (14) once again claimed a speeding ticket with Shannon Sutton taking the C grade bronze medal and Rachel Frost (17) claiming Metro’s last medal of the day a C grade bronze.

 

Other swimmers taking part were: Jack Whitehirst, Adam Hedge, Luke Hamstead, Kayley Britten, Kenyon Kellett, Hannah Burgess, Chloe Pollard, Dylan Bohm, Elisha Dawson, Lucy Fenwick, Isabelle Stewart, Ella Bailey, Georgia Naughton.


Finally there were 82 medals won and 54 speeding tickets gained with Sam Pearson (14), pictured below, claiming the overall top boy slot and Shannon Sutton (14) sharing the top girl position.
